چکیده
ABSTRACT Recent years have seen the rapid expansion of airborne and spaceborne remote-sensing products adopted by archaeologists for interpreting ancient landscapes managing heritage resources. A growing increasingly specialized literature attests to promise availability commercial publicly funded satellite imagery, as well UAV-mounted sensors across a range resolutions price points. In South Caucasus (including countries Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia), commitment landscape approaches in archaeology is stimulating adoption remote sensing an important new tool identifying archaeological resources while tracing impact historic land-use alterations survey areas. Nevertheless, budgetary challenges lack training opportunities among international partners organizations outside funding streams large academic institutions can lead widening technological gulfs discipline that reinforce colonial relationships. Building on recent technical articles covering specific imagery datasets, this article aims address providing general review free or low-cost remotely sensed datasets available archaeologists, with aim broadening awareness these tools their vocabularies, illustrating them published examples from Caucasus.

Low Cost UAV-based Remote Sensing for Autonomous Wildlife Monitoring
In recent years, developments in unmanned aerial vehicles, lightweight on-board computers, and low-cost thermal imaging sensors offer a new opportunity for wildlife monitoring. In contrast with traditional methods now surveying endangered species to obtain population and location has become more cost-effective and least time-consuming. In this paper, a low-cost UAV-based remote sensing platform...
متن کاملIntroducing Satellite Remote Sensing Systems and its Application in Archaeology Case Study: Behshahr Plain- Mazandaran
Human groups have considered the Behshahr plain of Mazandaran in the past Due to its particular geographical shape, location between the Caspian Sea and mountains, and the existence of some rivers in the region. However, our knowledge of this area is limited to several published surveys and archaeological investigation of its ancient sites. No detailed research has conducted on the formation of...
متن کاملGeospatial revolution and remote sensing LiDAR in Mesoamerican archaeology.
The application of light detection and ranging (LiDAR), a laser-based remote-sensing technology that is capable of penetrating overlying vegetation and forest canopies, is generating a fundamental shift in Mesoamerican archaeology and has the potential to transform research in forested areas world-wide. Much as radiocarbon dating that half a century ago moved archaeology forward by grounding ar...
متن کاملDigital Low-cost Remote Sensing with Pfiff, the Integrated Digital Remote Sensing System
Beside high end digital imaging systems which will replace standard photogrammetric cameras in the future, a large number of “lowcost” airborne systems were developed in the last years. The system PFIFF, a digital airborne remote sensing system developed by the author, is described in detail with special respect to demonstrate the photogrammetric potential of PFIFF. The demand for current digit...
متن کاملThe Hyperspectral Sensors Used in Satellite and Aerial Remote Sensing
This article presents a number of issues that are related to the hyperspectral sensors which are part of new technologies for the acquisition of images in satellite and aerial remote sensing. Hyperspectral sensors are characterized by the fact that they produce records in a large number of adjacent and narrow lanes thereby providing a very high spectral resolution. In this way, interpretations ...
